Award recipients are required to provide a 500-word write-up or 3-5-minute video of your experience at PhysCon.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a historically black college or university (HBCU) or minority-serving institution (MSI) as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Applicants must be undergraduate students at the time of the meeting.
  • Applicants must submit an abstract and present a poster at PhysCon.

Application Procedure

Applications to the PhysCon 2019 MSI/HBCU Student Travel Awards are due October 17, 2019 (extended). The application requires a certification from an advisor or academic mentor that the applicants are in good standing with the department; the online application will guide applicants through the process of requesting this certification.

Award Details

If you receive a PhysCon HBCU/MSI Travel Award, you are required to acknowledge the support that you received by including the SPS and NSF logos on your poster. The PhysCon HBCU/MSI Travel Awards will provide funding toward your PhysCon registration, travel to the meeting location (e.g., air fare), and lodging. The SPS National Office will assist award recipients in making these arrangements.

You are required to submit (by December 9, 2019) either a 500-word report on what you gained by attending PhysCon or a 3-5 minute creative and informational video about your experience at PhysCon.

Program Support

HBCU/MSI Travel Awards are funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation to the American Institute of Physics and the American Physical Society.
