End of week 1, and what a time to be alive! To live in DC on the night the Caps win the Stanley Cup at home, to be working at the American Center for Physics with Danielle and Brad, to hang out at the Einstein memorial with a bunch of physics nerds; I would say I am thriving.

My head is spinning.  I haven’t been able to function on less than 8 hours of sleep since way back in freshman year (because you know, that was FOREVER ago).  For the first time in a while, I feel like I truly belong.

As my first week of this internship draws to a close, I am very excited to see where this summer takes me.  I have learned a lot within the first few days of my internship and I am sure I will learn a lot more.

This week has already been off to a great start. We began with orientation and building tours, and then by the afternoon we were off to our individual placements.

So it is early in the morning of my third workday, and so far I am really enjoying working here at AIP. I was really nervous about performing well, being professional enough, and living up to the expectations set for me as an intern, but the experience is much different from what I expected!

It's crazy to think that there is only a single week of this internship left. There are so many things that I still want to do, but I definitely won’t be able to get to them all. I guess I’ll have to return to DC at some point.

So, I guess it’s finally all over, at least for now. As I write this I’m sitting at my desk, back in Alaska, looking out over some spruce trees instead of a cityscape, realizing just how quick the summer went by.
