The big highlight of my third week as an SPS intern was moving into one of the dorms at GW with all of the other interns. It’s so neat to be in DC! The Lincoln Memorial is right down the street, and we’re close to the metro.

Ahh… IT access. Work was finally moving along. The Eta Car group had me working with a new program they were hoping to use to get a new angle on their research.

We are on the move!

Our second outreach event of the season, at Tuckahoe Elementary, was scheduled for Tuesday. We had been planning ways to test a few of our activities. Three forty-five minute time blocks, about forty students in each block. Christine, Jamie, and Ro were coming out to help Nicole, Toni, and I; there would be a few teachers. Nice and manageable.

I’ve always heard that a science degree can get you anywhere. We all know that a math/science degree is excellent preparation for the extremely vital, significant careers in research, engineering, technology and other technical fields.

The Kennedy Center is a delightful place to unwind from the workweek, and that’s just what we did on Friday. The National Symphony Orchestra played an enjoyable program with some rather interesting cello solos, and we took it all in from our seats in the first row.

At the risk of repeating all my fellow interns, it’s been one crazy week.

One more week went by, and we were only able to smell it pass through. Last Friday we had the opportunity to try something new. We took the metro to Union Station and went to an Ethiopian restaurant.
