I am currently a junior at UNC Asheville, majoring in Physics and Math with a minor in Astronomy. I came to UNCA as a sophomore transfer student in the fall of 2015 and got involved with SPS activities immediately. Last semester, I joined a research project with my fellow student Olivia Byrd and research advisor Dr. James Perkins. Our task is to measure variations of the speed of sound within a corrugated tube using experimental methods. We will continue to develop a theory and model describing the behavior of sound over the course of this semester. I am also one of two STEM outreach interns for the Physics department. As an intern, I help develop events for Science Olympiad and work on various outreach events with the university and surrounding community. My plans after I graduate are to join the Peace Corps to work as a Science and Math teacher in Africa for two years and then pursue a PhD in Theoretical Physics.
