Friday, Caleb and I went out to NIST, where I will be doing the other half of my internship. We met with Mary, my new mentor and talked about how we were going to incorporate the SOCK with the rest of the program.
Happy Fourth of July! It was so special to be in DC this week with all of the holiday festivities! The atmosphere in Foggy Bottom changed dramatically with the sudden influx of tourists, and it was fun to be able to give directions to people looking for the metro and the national mall.
This last week was a fantastic week to be in our nation’s capitol. I started out the week working with Tom, one of the Ph.D. group members. Our collaborator from the Netherlands, Nicola, had been working on a program to help us model a few different portions of the system that we’re studying.
Already past my fourth week, and coincidentally it was the Fourth of July week! I didn’t want to have any work over my 4 day weekend so I dug in and hammered through as much work as I could get done. And wonderfully enough, I finished three projects leading into Thursday.
Despite only spending three days of it at work, this week has been more hectic than the last two put together. Last weekend I headed up to New York to see a friend I hadn’t seen in over a year and tried to fit as many tourist attractions as possible in to the twelve hours I was there.
Congress was in recess this week, so it was not as busy in the office. On Tuesday, the other interns and I were able to take the Hood and Emergency Training Course, required for all Hill Staff and Interns. It turned out to be both informative and pretty interesting, since we got to hear about a
I feel like this week has gone by so quickly. Spilling over from the end of last week and the beginning of this week, I was busy preparing materials for the Hearing on “Restoring U.S. Leadership in Weather Forecasting, Part 2″ by the Subcommittee on Environment.
So, I got a seat in front of the piano at this Kennedy Center concert! It was incredible, and I met a jazz pianist and vocalist from Oregon, who was sitting next to me, with whom I shared the awe of this concert.
