November 7-8, 2008, FermiLab, IL

Dear Sigma Pi Sigma Members,

2008 Congress
On behalf of Sigma Pi Sigma, we invite you to attend the 2008 Sigma Pi Sigma Congress.  This quadrennial meeting will be held at Fermilab November 7-8, 2008.  We believe that this is the only national meeting specifically designed to bring undergraduates, practicing physicists and physics alumni together to address common concerns for the discipline and for society.

The theme of the 2008 Congress is Scientific Citizenship: A Legacy and a Future. It follows on the heels of a very successful event held at Albuquerque, NM in the fall of 2004.  That meeting of 400 attendees featured Jocelyn Bell-Burnell and Carl Wieman among several distinguished speakers and panelists.   Students and faculty still speak warmly of the gathering.  In addition to many scientific talks physics students and faculty discussed ethical issues arising in the profession.  Several student-led recommendations emerged from this meeting.

We very much hope you will join us at Fermilab.

Sincerely,

Michael Gaither
