Week Two:

I can’t believe how fast this internship is flying by! I feel like I blinked and I’m already 1/5 of the way done with my DC adventure. This week was great! I had so much fun at work and with my new friends.

Monday started out a little slow, but I did get to start working on my presentation and relax. Tuesday was extremely hectic. The day was filled with lab time which was super awesome because it meant I got to learn about the Renishaw (Raman spectrometer) . I never realized how complicated spectrometers could be, but it was very interesting for my since I have never gotten to use a Raman spectrometer. I attempted to turn into a sponge and absorb all of the information Erin was teaching me and I think I retained at least 50%. Wednesday was extra nerve-wracking. This was the first time I would be presenting what I had worked on so far to my research group. The morning seemed to fly by, but when I finally got to my presentation I found out it was more informal than I anticipated. Everything went well, I think, and the day proceeded to fly by. Wednesday night I decided to go grocery shopping and I choose to mention this because there is a funny story to go along with this mini adventure. After walking half a mile I decided I didn’t want to walk anymore and we figured it would be easy to just take the metro the rest of the way home. As we waited for 10 minutes to show up, we were shocked to realize we waited ten minutes to go in the wrong direction. We waited another ten minutes and eventually ended up making it home, but I guess my lesson learned was that I was still a beginner when it came to understanding the metro.

Before I knew it Friday had come! After work on Friday there was a get together put on by AIP! We went bowling and had a ton of free food! I’m pretty bad at bowling, but it was a lot of fun to get together with all of my friends and just relax! I ended the night with a little Netflix. Saturday morning we woke up early and decided to go play pick-up soccer again. We played for hours and found another cupcake shop on the way home, it was pretty awesome. I also went exploring in Georgetown with some of my roomies and tried some awesome pasta. Sunday was a lazy day that included some shopping, working out, and Maker Faire.

All in all I ‘m still loving this experience. I get to workout all the time and we finally celebrated Victoria’s birthday. I am yet to visit the zoo, but I think that that will be the plan for next weekend.
