This week was a rather odd one. I don’t mean that in a bad way. It was really exciting to practically have a 4-day weekend, but it was so much time I didn’t know what to do with myself. The work week was fairly normal. We had another progress meeting this week and I feel like my Origin skills have really heightened. I’m officially a plot making pro. I’m excited to explore the field of polarized raman, but that will have to wait until next week.

As for my time outside of work, Monday through Thursday was business as usual. I spent my evenings studying for the chemistry GRE and working out. On Friday we were released from work a little early because of the holiday. I had an early dinner with some of my intern friends at a local pub. It was a great time with great food. Of course I had to get a delicious bacon burger. It was fantastic! Saturday morning, I stuck to my typical routine and ventured out for a game of soccer. The weather was the nicest it has been since I got here. We played for a while and then I headed home to continue binge watching Netflix. Finally, after showering and relaxing Victoria and I decided to go out. We attempted to find outfits for the 4th, but came back empty-handed, which probably wasn’t the worst thing. We found a great Thai restaurant and after we found an even better gelato place! It was great J ! No worries though, I was still able to get in a workout to balance out all of the food. Sunday was more of a relaxing day to prepare for all of the exploring that we would do on Monday.

Finally, the 4th had arrived and I was overjoyed to finally see fireworks in DC. Obviously things never go as planned and well what I had hoped to be a beautiful Monday turned out to be very rainy and muggy. As usual food trumps all and since our intern housing was offering free ice cream at another housing location we decided to march through the rain to get to the free food. I must say free ice cream with unlimited toppings was definitely worth the frizzy hair and damp shoes.  I went back home for some time to relax and then we went out to find a spot to watch the fireworks. Since a lot of the friends that we have made at the intern housing work on the hill we were able to watch the 4th of July concert on the steps of the capitol! How cool is that! Regardless of the weather not many people can say they have done that in their lifetime. After the concert the firework show began. The fog made it difficult to see everything clearly, but I feel like at the end of the day it was the experience that really mattered! All in all it was another great week and I’m excited for all the tours and events that are coming
