Week 9 was my final week in the AAPT office. I spent the week wrapping up a bunch of smaller projects and parts of projects, including gathering data for the Bootstrap for Physics workshop currently ongoing in New York. I created a short powerpoint with data and statistics on equity on physics and computer science, the standard physics curriculum, and the interdisciplinary importance of CS. I also gathered a ton of data on the upcoming 2017 solar eclipse for the NASA Heliophysics grant that AAPT is becoming involved in, and put together existing educational and referential resources for the grant.
I am currently in New York observing and participating in the Bootstrap for Physics workshop, which started last week, and I will be able to spend Monday and Tuesday learning about modeling and incorporating programming and CS into the physics first classroom. The first day has been very interesting so far, and I had the opportunity to help lead a discussion on the role of teachers in the Physics First classroom in promoting equity in physics and computer science. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming parts of the workshop and learning more about modeling and developing Bootstrap for physics.
