It is hard to believe that I am writing about week five of the internship already! I had no idea that the time living at DC would travel this fast. The work is… well everyone who is involved in research is fully aware that it is a long and tedious process.  With that said, there are certain days where I have made tremendous progress, and others that are not as prosperous.

My project is divided into two sections, and if we work as planned by my mentor, then we should start new simulation this week.  The data is interesting and we should be wrapping up our final interpretations early in week six for the surface potential simulation.  The second half of the involves conducting simulations of Radio Frequency (RF) effects of our devices under test (DUT).  I am excited to see what results we can generate running these simulations.

As far as my week is concerned, those were the events that marked Monday through Friday of another busy week at NIST.  On the weekend, I visited a friend from college who took me to his home and various other locations in his area.  On Friday night, he picked me up from the Bethesda Metro Station and we went to a party for a friend of his who is starting Medical School at Yale in the fall.  At around midnight we left the party and went to my friend’s house.

On Saturday we went to various areas, including both urban and rural areas alike, to see the beauty of his hometown. First he introduced me to the Mall of Columbia.  It had an elegant clock, which contained the name of the mall in great, big letters above it.

After that, we went to two of his favorite places to relax.

The first was Wilde Lake:

and was a marvelous site to behold! Wilde Lake Park is the name of the area, and I would recommend to anyone who is in the area visiting.  There are lots to see, it’s a great place to go on a bike ride, run, or simply on a walk.

The other place we visited was the Liberty Lake Reservoir.

This is perfect for anyone looking for a camping site.  Also is a great spot to go canoeing for anyone who is into that sort of stuff.  These two places were great opportunities to sit down and catch up on all the things that have happened since we graduated college earlier this year.  My friend is all about nature and the outdoors; therefore, I am able to see why he adores these two places so much.

We ended the day with a Toby Keith concert! I am not super into country music, but I must say that these individuals can get very excited at the sight of these big name artists.  I told myself at the beginning of the summer, “I am going to try new things,” and so I have.  This concert was not only my first country concert, but also I got to get a greater appreciation for this style of music.  I have always liked music very much, and I believe that all types of music is beautiful in its own way.  There are certain genres of music I would never get into, but I am open to trying new things.  I will say that if I were to receive another invite to a country concert I will not turn it down!
