This week, I spent all my time on revising the work I have been doing throughout this internship so that the data that gets published on the APS website is accurate.

This was it! This was the week! We had our two training sessions for members about combating the spread of scientific misinformation, and especially misinformation about vaccine hesitancy. There were two sessions, held Monday and Thursday evening.

Since I finished my program according to our original goals last week, I started work on my analysis this week. My advisor and I are considering the best way to present our findings visually.

This week, I finalized the Top Educators Lists and the documentation for the process. As I was starting to work on graphs, something was brought to my attention. Our How Does Your Institution Compare data for 2018 did not include second degrees in physics although the Uberspreadsheet did.

This week, I finished my data processing application. I’m very excited, as I found an alternative database system that greatly speeds up queries and is much easier to package into a portable application!

This week, I continued working on the Top Educators Lists. I completed writing the program that generates the spreadsheet with each institution’s 3-year averages based on the demographic/degree categories decided (yay!).

I did it! My first professional presentation! I was pretty nervous, and got little to no sleep the night before, but I did it. I presented to my team of APS Public Engagement and Office of External Affairs members my suggestions on how to move forward with the misinformation campaign.

This week was a busy one! We are getting to crunch time, but I feel somewhat on track with my project. I’m very excited, as I have finished the backbone of code for my project.

This week, I started working on the Top Educators lists. In order to create the Top Educators lists for each demographic, I need to use the Überspreadsheet to create a separate sheet with all the institution’s 3-year averages for degrees awarded in physics.
