Future Faces of Physics Kit

NEWS:

With the theme Future Faces of Physics, SPS is raising visibility and focus on issues of student diversity in physics. This Future Faces of Physics Kit is centered on this theme, and it includes many items, ranging from diffraction glasses to a tactile model of the moon used to teach blind students.

All chapters hosting zone meetings in spring 2008 will received a free kit. If you would like to request a kit for another meeting you are hosting, please contact SPS. If you would like to compile your own kit, a list of items and suggested vendors is included below.

A highlight of the kit is the Future Faces of Physics Jeopardy set, which consists of buzzers, a score board, instructions, and a game board—everything you need to hold your own Jeopardy game. The questions cover physics, pop culture physics, the physics community, and more.

We ask that you use these kits to facilitate discussions on diversity during your SPS meeting. You might: Put a set of materials on each table during lunch or dinner and encourage tables to investigate their set. Display the contents during registration and breaks for students to browse. Watch and discuss Percy Julian: Forgotten Genius. Bring in a guest speaker to talk about diversity issues in physics and use the kit materials to supplement the talk. Use your creativity to incorporate them in some other way! Enjoy, and be sure to let us know how you used the kit.
