Call for Nominations for 2013 SPS Council

This spring SPS will elect new Zone Councilors from Zones 2, 5, 6, 7, 12, and 17; and new Associate Zone Councilors from all 18 Zones. In addition, the position of SPS President will also be on the ballot. Consider nominating your most capable SPS members for Associate Zone Councilors, and colleagues who serve as SPS advisors for Zone Councilor or President of SPS... you may even nominate yourself!

2012 Outstanding Chapters Named
2012 Outstanding SPS Chapter University of Missouri—Kansas City. Congratulations to all of the 2012 SPS Outstanding Chapters! These awards are determined by Zone Councilors & Associate Zone Councilors each academic year, after a careful review of the information, photos and supporting material presented in the annual SPS Chapter Reports. Pictured at left is 2012 Outstanding SPS Chapter, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, during their "Webelos on Wheels" event.

SPS installs first chapter in China
SPS chapter at Southeast University is first in ChinaIn December 2010 a petition to charter a chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) was filed with the SPS National Council by Southeast University in the People's Republic of China. After review, the petition was approved by action of the SPS Executive Committee. The chapter was installed on December 28, 2010, becoming the first SPS chapter in China.

Chapters
SPS has more than 700 chapters at colleges and universities across the United States. Each chapter is very individualized by the interests of its members, its physics & astronomy departments, the campus atmosphere, and the geographical setting.


Zones
The SPS is organized geographically in 18 zones. Each zone elects a Zone Councilor and Associate Zone Councilor to the SPS National Council. SPS encourages each zone to host at least one zone meeting each academic year.


National Council
The SPS National Council is the governing body for the Society of Physics Students and Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society.
